A new frontier, in your browser

Outposts is a free strategy game set in the Wandering Bands world. It is a separate game, with a frontier settlement to raise, troops and heroes to recruit, and a shared map to explore. Other settlements appear by name and kingdom. Your progress, saves and Wandering Bands Gold are not shared between the two games: this is a new outpost to build.

An Outposts settlement, Lantern of Greenhold: buildings inside a wooden palisade with four watchtowers, the four resource fields outside it, and each plot marked with its building level.
A settlement in Outposts. The buildings stand inside the palisade and the four resource fields sit outside it; the numbers on the plots are building levels.

A frontier that keeps moving

You play Outposts in a browser on desktop or mobile, with nothing to install. Construction, training and marches continue on the server while the tab is closed. You can make your plans, leave the game and return to read the reports. The browser gives you a way into that ongoing frontier; keeping a tab open is not what keeps your orders moving.

Choose a name and a kingdom

Your first choices are a name and an allegiance: Ironvale, Greenhold or Sunreach. Other players see your name beside your kingdom, and that kingdom stays with the settlement. Each has its own troop roster. From there, the frontier asks you to consider more than the size of an army. Routes, pace, carrying capacity and food all shape an expedition.

The camps belong to the shared map

Every player attacks the same persisted enemy camps. An army arriving later meets the survivors left by earlier attacks, so the damage another player does can matter to your own march. That damage does not last indefinitely: camps have a damage window, and an unfinished camp recovers when its window closes. A defeated camp also returns after its recovery period, with a new composition.

Distance and food matter

Mountains block direct routes, and rivers can be crossed only at fixed crossings. A march moves at the pace of its slowest troop. Before sending an army, the dispatch panel shows its carrying capacity and food upkeep. Scouts can establish logistics camps on open meadow tiles, giving your forces another starting point. Attacks from those camps still travel at normal marching speed.

Find people to coordinate with

Guilds bring up to twenty players together under a Bannerlord, with up to two Standard-Bearers. They are free and invite-only, and members can see one another’s home coordinates. Outposts is built for coordination. Shared enemies, different arrival times and the needs of an army make the actions of other players part of the frontier you are planning around.

Start with your first outpost

Choose Play in your browser to begin. You can start as a guest, whose outpost lives in one browser. Give the settlement a name, choose a kingdom and begin building. When you return, construction, training and marches have continued on the server. Your reports show what happened to the armies you sent. Your Wandering Bands progress stays in Wandering Bands.
